Medical Foot Care at Home: What to Expect During Your First Visit

Professional, compassionate foot care brought right to your doorstep in Ottawa.

Getting your feet cared for shouldn't be stressful, especially when getting out of the house isn't easy!

Whether you're dealing with mobility challenges, caring for an aging parent, recovering from surgery, or simply prefer the convenience of staying home, professional medical foot care can come right to you.

At Becky & Co. Medical Foot Care, our team of Registered Nurses provides medical foot care visits throughout Ottawa, bringing professional equipment, sterilized instruments, and a friendly face right to your door.

If you've never had a foot care nurse visit your home before, here's exactly what you can expect!

1. Booking Your Home Visit

Booking is easy!

You can request a home visit through our website at www.beckysfootcare.com, or contact our office for assistance.

We provide mobile medical foot care across Ottawa, including Kanata, Stittsville, Nepean, Barrhaven, Orleans, Gloucester, and surrounding neighbourhoods.

We also visit clients in retirement residences, long-term care facilities, and hospitals.

Our team works to coordinate appointments within the same neighbourhood whenever possible, helping reduce travel time and allowing us to serve more clients efficiently.

2. Your Nurse Arrives With Everything Needed

You don't need to purchase any special equipment or prepare a treatment area.

Your Registered Nurse will arrive with the supplies needed for your appointment, including:

  • Professionally sterilized foot care instruments

  • A specialized podiatry drill

  • Personal protective equipment

  • Cleaning and infection prevention supplies

  • Foot care products and assessment tools

All we ask is that you have a comfortable, well-lit place to sit, preferably somewhere your nurse can safely access your feet.

A recliner or comfortable chair often works wonderfully!

3. We Start by Getting to Know You and Your Feet

Your first appointment includes more than just trimming toenails.

Your nurse will review your relevant health history, discuss any concerns you have, and assess your feet.

We'll look at things like:

  • Toenail thickness, shape, and condition

  • Corns, calluses, and areas of pressure

  • Dry skin, cracks, or other skin changes

  • Foot discomfort or areas of concern

  • Circulation and sensation, when indicated

  • Footwear and daily foot care habits

This assessment helps us tailor your treatment to your individual needs.

Our goal is to help prevent problems, not just treat them after they develop.

4. Time for Your Foot Care!

Depending on your needs, your appointment may include:

Toenail Care: Trimming, shaping, and reducing thickened or difficult-to-manage toenails.

Corn and Callus Care: Carefully reducing areas of thickened skin that may be causing discomfort.

Skin Care: Addressing dry, rough, or cracked skin and providing moisturizing recommendations.

Diabetic Foot Care: Assessing for concerns that may increase the risk of complications and providing preventive education.

Foot Care Education: Discussing footwear, pressure relief, and ways to maintain healthier feet between visits.

Our nurses take the time to explain what they're doing and answer your questions.

We want you to feel comfortable, informed, and cared for throughout your appointment.

5. How Long Does a Home Visit Take?

Most home foot care treatments take approximately 30–45 minutes, depending on the condition of your feet and the care required.

Our home visit scheduling allows approximately one hour, which includes some travel time between appointments.

Some clients need a little more attention, while others have fairly straightforward foot care needs.

Every pair of feet is different!

6. Payment, Receipts, and Insurance

Payment is collected at the time of your appointment.

Our current home visit rates are:

  • Initial Home Visit: $100

  • Follow-Up Home Visit: $80

We accept cash, debit, credit card, e-transfer, and cheque.

A detailed receipt is provided for insurance purposes.

Many private insurance plans offer coverage for foot care provided by a Registered Nurse, although coverage depends on your individual plan.

We also provide eligible foot care services for Veterans Affairs Canada clients through the Veterans Independence Program (VIP).

We always recommend checking your insurance coverage before booking.

7. When Should You Book Your Next Appointment?

Many of our clients benefit from routine appointments every 6–8 weeks, depending on their individual needs.

Regular visits can help manage thickened toenails, reduce recurring calluses, monitor foot health, and identify potential concerns early.

Your nurse can recommend an appropriate follow-up schedule based on your assessment.

We encourage clients to book their next appointment before their nurse leaves, especially if they prefer a consistent day or time.

Who Benefits From In-Home Medical Foot Care?

Home visits can be especially helpful for:

  • Seniors who find it difficult to leave home

  • Individuals with limited mobility or disabilities

  • People living with diabetes or chronic health conditions

  • Clients recovering from surgery or illness

  • Residents of retirement homes or long-term care facilities

  • Hospital patients requiring routine foot care

  • Anyone who prefers the convenience of professional care at home

And here's something important: You don't have to be elderly or have a medical condition to benefit from professional foot care!

We care for adults of all ages with a wide range of foot care needs.

More Than Just a Toenail Trim

At Becky & Co., we believe medical foot care should be accessible, professional, and personal.

Our Registered Nurses have completed additional education in advanced foot care and are committed to providing safe, compassionate, evidence-informed care.

We use professionally sterilized instruments, follow infection prevention and control practices, and take the time to get to know the people we care for.
