Summer Foot Care Tips from Becky’s Foot Care

Keep Your Feet Healthy, Happy, and Sandal-Ready!

Summer is here—and that means flip-flops, barefoot beach days, and lots of time in the sun. But while you’re soaking up the warm weather, don’t forget to give your feet the TLC they deserve! As a foot care nurse at Becky’s Foot Care, I see a lot of seasonal foot issues that could easily be prevented with a little extra care.

Here are my top summer foot care tips to help you avoid discomfort and enjoy every sunny step.

☀️ 1. Moisturize Daily (Yes, Even in Summer!)

Sun, salt water, and sandals can leave your feet dry and cracked. Don’t skip your moisturizing routine!

Becky’s Tip:
Apply a rich, non-greasy foot cream every night—especially on your heels and soles. For extra hydration, try wearing light cotton socks to bed after moisturizing.

🩴 2. Don’t Rely on Flip-Flops

Flip-flops may be convenient, but they offer zero support and can cause heel pain, arch strain, and even calluses.

What to do instead:
Choose sandals with arch support and cushioned soles. If you must wear flip-flops, limit them to short periods and avoid long walks.

🦶 3. Exfoliate Gently

Barefoot strolls and open shoes mean your feet are exposed to dirt and friction. Keep them smooth with gentle exfoliation.

Becky’s Tip:
Use a pumice stone or foot file 2–3 times a week, followed by moisturizer. Or, treat yourself to a professional exfoliation session at Becky’s Foot Care—your feet will thank you!

💦 4. Stay Dry to Prevent Fungus

Hot, humid conditions create the perfect environment for athlete’s foot and fungal infections.

How to stay protected:

  • Wear breathable shoes and moisture-wicking socks.

  • Change socks if your feet get sweaty.

  • Use foot powder or antifungal spray if you're prone to fungal issues.

  • Never walk barefoot in public showers or pools!

👟 5. Watch for Blisters

Summer adventures often mean more walking—and more friction. Ill-fitting sandals or sweaty shoes can quickly lead to painful blisters.

Prevention Tips:

  • Break in new shoes slowly.

  • Use blister pads or moleskin in problem areas.

  • Keep your feet clean and dry.

🏖️ 6. Protect Your Feet from the Sun

Most people forget that feet can burn just like the rest of your body!

Becky’s Tip:
Apply SPF 30+ to the tops of your feet and toes when you're out in the sun, and reapply after swimming.
